They Say 3 Make's It So...

So I am posting photos of the 3 colors of the Brahmin's Campania Crossbody I am drawn to.
Maybe posting the 3 photos will materialize at least one of these bags.
Universe, there's space in my closest!

The Dream Bag

I, like most women I know, love Chanel's quilted bag. And I, like most women I know, can never afford to purchase a Chanel's quilted bag because other things seem to become priority whenever we find the intent and purpose to even consider buying one. So when I saw Melanie Auld's Lambskin purse it's no wonder I went all atingle. At $360.00 it's a bargain when compared to the aforementioned brand but is still something I, and most of the women I know would need to budget for.

P.S. I love the large quilting, I believe it makes the bag feel modern.

Looney Tunes for Dooney & Bourke

I still want the D&B's Editor's bag but after seeing the Double Gusset Flap Bag in a magazine last month all I can think about it which of the 7 colors I would perfer if I were to finally snap and pay $350 for a bag.

Of course if I am going to pay $350.00 for a bag I might as well spend the extra $45 for the more elegant Shoulder Gusset style bag.

And I will also need a matching large shopper to go with whichever bag I decide to splurge on.
It's only another $395.

Or maybe I could be more economial about the whole thing and only spend the extra $335 for the short shopper?
I mean I won't have much to spend after buying any of these bags anyway so I might not need a large  shopper anyway.

Hanging Around..

I am a big nerd. I love carrying a coin purse. Mine dangles from my key ring and sometimes when I go out I wear a "fancy" black beaded one I purchased a 100 years ago from Joyce Leslie's.  It seems this preference might be another "trend" and this season designers are again giving us options for all budgets.

I love the one shown above, even with the pink ribbon, and at $14.00 it's worth a try

For something a bit larger go to
to look at their coin purse shaped Ashley Framed Handbags
(image below).
At $125 each these embossed leather bags are worth the investment.

The Return of the Hand Bag

This scanned page from Elle is just an example of Fall 2010's handbag, compact, squarish, lady-like bags, which means it's time for a purse clean out!

Just Your Average Lunch Bag

This image has been all over the net and I am loving it!
It is a HUGE step removed from the original and a huge improvement on those designer garbage bag bags that have been floating around.
Anyone have a marker?

Not In The Bag....

I am really liking the Kristin Tote Bag by Coach.
I am inspired by it's shape and size though the $698 price tag distances me from my desire.

I May Be Late On the Draw...

Published in July 2008 this book shows you how to turn t shirts, candy wrappers, placemats and other odd things into fairly fashionable totes and sacks. Using scissors, tape, staples and little or no sewing the book shows step by step instructions. These bags are fun, but with a little effort and imagination of your own you can turn them into as high of an end handbag as you want.

I took out the copy from the library and suggest you do the same before heading on over to Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Simply-Sublime-Bags-Low-Sew-Projects/dp/0307393623/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1243650070&sr=8-1#

It's In the Glittery Bag

I, probably like many of you, use recycled reusable bags, but I am always forgetting mine at home. Of course I end up buying more when I shop and now have a collection of the ugliest "environmentally friendly" bags around.

You know the bags I am typing about. The bags made of recyled bottles and other plastic items. The bags that are an advertisment for the stores you shop in and are offered at prices cheap enough that you don't feel like you're being too put out by spending the $1 or so that they cost. I know that there are other options out there, but I am really not too keen on spending the money some of the brands are asking for a logo'd nylon bag that I will end up forgetting to carry anyway.

Two Sundays ago I purchased two sequined netted bags (see photo) for $1.49 each at my local 99cents Plus Store. Each crocheted bag stretches to accomodate 1/2 gallon of milk, a dozen eggs and a few other small items. Having two should be fine since I never shop for more than I can carry anyway but the luxury of thinking outside the box to support the idea of recycling and re-using and the fun I will have toting these bags around this spring and summer far outweighs the good deed of supporting those ideas.

Bagged

There was a time when I was obessed with Dooney & Bourke's Editor's Travel Tote, but I refuse to pay the full retail price. I am patient. I can wait. I know one day it will be mine. While I wait to run across "the bag" on sale or on Ebay there will be other bags. Bags that entice. Bags that promise to be the one. Bags I may even pay full retail price for. Bags like Sondra Robert's Sachel, featured in this month's vogue - see bad scan. They are suppose to retail for $85 but at this posting aren't available via the company's site. Guess what site is now one of my favorites next list to the D&B Editor's Travel Tote? I hope the D&BETT doesn't find out...

Living For the Weekend

I have been on the search for the perfect weekender for the past decade. After finding and buying at least 6 bags, new and used, brand and no-name, that I thought would be the "one" and being disappointed each and every time I have come up with the following criteria for the bag. It must be large enough to hold 3 days worth of clothing including an extra jacket or sweater, 1 pair of dress shoes, 1 pair of trainers, my toiletries and a book. It must have compartments to separately house each of these items but not have so many sections or pockets that I have to label them just to find my way around the bag. The weekender must be clean of all oranmentation, structured and shaped so that it can fit into the plane overhead while still being small enough not to outsize me. It's handles must allow me to carry it comfortably in my hands as well as allow me hoist in onto my shoulders in case I need to run to make a connection. It must be non-seasonal so that I can use it all year around and I have come to the conclusion that it should be black so that it doesn't show dirt and matches almost everything I wear.

I cut a number of photos from magazines in hopes of manifesting this bag. Of course I manifested all the bags I had photos of but still no ideal bag. I guess I will just have to make the bag. Since it will probably take me another 5 years to select fabric, lining and findings and test sizes I'll have to carry my weekend supplies in a recyled Whole Foods Bags. Now the question is paper or plastic...

A Bundle of Joy

By the time you read this post my new laptop will have arrived and like a brand new baby I will be doting over it and lovingly becoming familiar with all its capabilities and possibilities. And because it will need to be protected from the elements, mostly me, when not in use and when in transport it will be bundled in its brand new toile laptop case - see attached. This month's lucky featured this item, only $32, and the site it is available from, lamadesigns.com. Lamadesigns is an acronym for LatinAmerica in the Modern Age. The site sells contemporary versions of traditional crafts and Latin American designs. I find some of the items available at this time a bit kitschy for my taste but trust that the owner's quest to give us access to unknown Latin American designers will unearth some amazing things for future purchases. Worth adding to your favorites

It and Everything Else Is In the Bag

My mission this month is to begin to use the smaller sized bags I own before I go on the search for a new one. The bags I have are lovely bags. Some of them are even classic "it" bags. Some have never seen the light of day but none of the vintage bags I own will ever be able to support my over carrying habit. I have tried to carry just my lap top, in its own bag, a phone that was a one in all, a thin wallet and a lip gloss but such a light load in a bag that could swallow me whole if I reach in too deep to find the keys doesn’t feel right. So instead of switching bags (duh!) in goes the sketch pad, the writing tablet, the leather bound I-bought-for-too-much-in-Rome Day Keeper, the pens and pencils, the wallet, the home and office keys, the bag-o-make-up with its tissues, Q-tips, baby wipes and carry sized contact lens solution. The problem is that I am programmed to carry things "just in case" and they can change on a day by day basis so more stuff goes in until I, like every other commuting woman, look like Quasimodo.

I am really wanting an oblong bag that is no larger than the size of a 9" x 12" manila envelope, flat and simple/subtle in details. I haven’t seen it yet. The stores seem to still be over flooded with “statement” bags. I own a few 'vintage" Koret (started in 1929, this bag company was the licensee for two of the world's most famous designer names, Christian Dior and Hubert Givenchy) and Tano (http://www.tanobag.net/2008/01/tano-bag-blog-defined.html )“vintage” bags that have become the inspirations for my search. After typing both names into the Ebay search engine up came a few more images that will help me in this search. For now I am gradually downsizing. All my goodies have been moved into a bag half the size of my normal one. They say it takes 30 days to make or break a habit so by the end of February I should be using my vintage bags and then the hunt will begin.

Counting to 100 Slow & Steady

December's Elle features Slow And Steady Wins The Race as an editor's pick in their Gift Guide.

The mission of this label is to focus on specific characteristic of clothing design while pushing to produce interesting and significant pieces from the simplest and most inexpensive fabrics and materials. In other words they are inspired by classic silhouettes and designs. They produce only 100 pieces of each style so each item is a limited edition despite the economical costs. Elle highlighted their muslin and cotton canvas bags inspired by classic bag shapes like the Chanel, the Birken and Gucci. Each bag costs $100.
The site is definitely worth a visit!
