Qu'ils mangent de la brioche!

When the weather warms the oven goes off and I dream of baking cakes until the temperature drops and I once again have the desire to heat the oven up. In preparation for "the season" I have book marked Bon Appetit's 10 Years of Fabulous Chocolate Cakes page (click on title).

Had Marie Antoinette had the net she might have said it to "Qu'ils mangent le gâteau de chocolat!"

Yes, I Am A Sew N Sew...

A few weeks back I posted that I would begin to share some sewing techniques. Unfortunately intent doesn't always manifest reality, especially when it involves sorting sewing technique samples made 100 years ago (ok not 100 years but it feels like it has been 100 years since I made them, stuffed them into books and stuffed the books into a closet overflowing with uncompleted projects). After posting one or two items I stopped because when I pulled out my awkward books of samples I realized I needed to find better storage for it all, storage that would uniformly organize it all. But inorder to even consider what type of storage would work I would have to sort the samples into technique and size and perhaps redo or complete a few of the items - you get the picture -I had created another project that would distract me from projects I truly needed to address.

My sincere apologies for announcing something I couldn't deliver.

Keeping Time

When I was a kid my mom gifted me with a watch set that I was able to wear well into my high school years because it wasn't really just one watch. It was a time piece that centered around a set of 6 colorful interchangeable bands of leather and/or plastic. This sleek, water repellent brightly colored Teller P watches reminds me of the shape and design of that long gone watch set.

Easy Like A Sunday Morning

One of the most wonderful things about the summer is being able to throw on a simple dress, a pair of sandals and run out the door. I have always loved T-Shirt dresses and am not a brand snob that is why when I saw these Faded Glory - Women's Organic Cotton T-Shirt Dresses for $8 each at Walmart I didn't hestiate to buy 3. I suggest trying on your size and a size smaller than you are to see which fit you prefer.

Every morning I pass this group doing their daily morning exercises. Now that the weather has warmed the group has gotten larger. The funny thing is there never seems to be the same person leading.

Weeding the Wild Flowers

It seems that this is the season of the Liberty of London floral print influence and many of the major lines are carrying clothing and accessories in tiny floral print. I actually love the Gap's versions because despite being the trend they aren't "trendy".

Tuesday's Mental Musings

Elle:
If I start dating a thug girlfriend, what sort of behavior might I expect from her?

TM:
The question would be reversed. What kind of behavior would you expect from you? She's going to be the same. Your behavior would change. A thugged-out woman carries a gun. You see how Tupac was? I was with women like that. They grew up in a single-parent household where the mother has to be both mother and father. That takes away her femininity - in this world of poverty, you gotta be tough. So I started trying to be just as tough or tougher

Offensive Trend

I understand that there is a trend among certain young people to wear what people consider Native American Headdress. Well if you consider it OK to wear this -
Or this
Perhaps you should consider exploiting and insulting other living groups of people by casually wearing these-

Listening to the Screams

Bathing Suit Season is almost upon us and I, like so many other women, both welcome and dread this season of exposure. Hitting the gym and praying for good lighting and accurate or slimming dressing room mirrors aside one of my tricks is to buy a suit in matching pieces that allow me to "trunk-up" based on my mood. Because isn't all about how you feel not how you really look?

I must admit I LOVE Old Navy's yearly options. The quality of the fabric isn't that great but then these pieces aren't meant to be investment fashion pieces, but if you're like me and pnly spend a couple of weekends out of the summer waterside and rinse your suits in gentle detergents rather than machine wash they could last 2 seasons or more. Of course at these prices you may not care if they do.

Now that the roar of Liberty of London arriving at Target has died down and the shelves are empty and Ebay is flooded with marked up offerrings of anything with an intense floral print I can post about the one Liberty of London for Target item that made me drool -

Walking It Off In Style

In my search for a new walking shoe I found myself overwhelmed by all the fitness trainers that have flooded the market. In my opinion some of them are beyond unattractive (Helloooooo Sketchers!!). Despite my distaste the quest continued and I finally decided on 2 pair, a sandal and a closed sneaker.

We have all heard of FitFlops. They were on the forefront of the fitness walking shoe craze and because of all the imitators they have had to step up their game to compete. The FitFlop Walkstar III comes in a variety of colors and finishes and are available wherever FitFlops are sold but I am buying mine from Amazon.com  ( http://www.amazon.com/FitFlop-Womens-Walkstar-Sandal-Oyster/dp/B001NXBW32/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=shoes&qid=1274015826&sr=8-1 )
For those days and terrains when a closed shoe is a better walking option I decided on the mettalic EasyTone Reeinspire. Because of lift and support design most sneaker-styled toning shoes tend to come in odd shapes. To avoid any surprises I suggest trying them on before purchasing. If you are brave and just have to have them click on the title to go their page on the Reebok site. They run $100-125 per pair.

Sneaking In A Little S&M

I love these Chuck Buckle High-Tops by UES, but at $160 a pair they will only be loved from afar and I will continue to wear my pink Chuck Taylor Converse Sneakers that cost me 1/5 of the price and be a little bit tortured.

Tuesday's Mental Musings

I don't understand how FX's new show "Justified" made it through to production and airing. The hotness of actor Timothy Olyphant and the method acting of Walter Goggins aside I don't understand how a show so over filled with stereotypes of Southerners, Northerners, Criminals, Law Men can exist. It is the 2nd highest debut show in FX's history but I still don't understand how viewers can accept such expected caricatures of people. Maybe I need to get through the whole 1st season (I'm watching it on hulu.com) to get pass the obvious and be privy to the development of main characters personalities? Or maybe it's not the show for me.

Fine China

I love this plate!

Falling Into A Trend

Ladies when you purchase your men's styled shirt for fall remember to buy one that is slightly oversized so that it creates a blouson silhouette when tucked into your fitted skirt or pant.

If you find one with a dolman sleeve all the better!
