Feeling Blue...

I have a formal function to go to at the end of June and I want to wear something new, something special to it. Instead of searching for a dress that will "do" I have decided to make something to wear. I am building the ensemble around a pair of elegant silver strappy sandals that I have only worn twice. For the last week I all I can think of is blue.

It's so difficult to suggest something to wear to someone you don't really know; here in Portland, we revel in our Do It Yourself culture. Could you find a charming 60's style body skimming sheath dress in one of the vibrant blues they wore back then and then modify it to fit? Or, use some of that wonderful blue satin to make a simple high-neck gathered halter top, and then wear with a slightly-flared skirt (or any number of skirts, actually?

Thank you for the suggestions - I actually have 4 vintage sewing patterns from the 1950s waiting for me to make a selection - I am heading towards a halter top dress with an fitted skirt and belted waist because I would love to make cabbage roses to put at the waist instead of belting it..we shall see ;)
