Skirting the Issue

I love the fact that my niece at 10 years old is exploring and discovering her own personal style. We recently went shopping and she pulled out 6 skirts from the racks that she loved. Knowing we weren't going to buy them all we took the experience as an opportunity to see that basically she had picked the same skirt in different colors and with different details. She settled on two whose cut and color complimented her best..

Those of us who sews know that there are a foundation of skirt shapes from which all skirts come from. I found the attached image which pretty much explains them all. Now visualize ruffles, bias cut flowy creations, draw string and elastic waists, kick pleats, and hip pockets...dream on..dream on..
