Tuesday's Mental Musings

We all know when it's time for change. We all know when it's time to move on, let go and let it be yet most of us hold on, stay put and try to make things be what we believe and expect them to be. Rather than accepting that a situation no longer supports our goals we waste our time trying to make it support us and give us what we need in order to achieve objectives so far removed from where and who we are that we can't possibly transition. And most times we fail to see our part in it all, creating villians and adversarial situations even between our own inner selves.

Some of us run from the knowledge that it is time to move on, even if that moving on is to change our behavior and reaction to our lives and people around us. We ignore our responsibility and part in our current standing believing if we put time and space between it and us that it will work itself to our benefit. We pretend that it is the situation and those around us causing our issues. We never allow ourselves to see our part in it and that we are often repeating the history of our emotional, spiritual and physical intimacies. We abuse those who are truly interested and supportive of our well being and goals and grasp for the new and shiny with hope that it is the possibility that will wash away the foundation of our behavior and fulfill us. When the new and hopeful proves to nothing more than glitter, paste and string we return to what we have expecting it to fulfill us until we realize that we still must do the work to get to that place of contentment. Rather than invest in the work, which starts with self, we allow ourselves to be distracted once again believing that we will always have something to return to.

Some of us stand still twisting this way and that trying to make it work believing that if we improve the situation will improve. We believe that by constantly forgiving and investing we will rise above our own history and create what we want.  We believe that if we communicate, request, define and detail the step by step process of achieving a goal or creating an environment that supports that goal we will have the people and situations in our lives that truly reflect the lives we want to live and sometimes less obviously, want those around us to be living. In our control we distance ourselves from the truth of our choices and believe we are trapped in "our lessons". We stand still believing that inaction is the action in it self and that by being steady, firm and secure we won't be swept away from the security of our lives when change occurs.

Regardless of how we handle the truth that it may be time to move on most of us tend to ignore the requests for action living a life of true intimacy and fulfillment requires. And in the end we continue to take part in a situation whose expiration date has long come and gone believing that is all there is. But there are some of us that know better.
