After It's All Said & Done

The block that envelopes my neighborhood church is lined on all sides with trees donated in the name of members long gone. Each tree is encased in a dirt plot held in by a plaque and the cement of the sidewalk. Some are as old as the church itself which isn't old by some church standards but in NY where buildings and storefronts change within months of being erected being over 100 is a feat in itself.

During the storms a few weeks ago many of those trees suffered damage and a few had to be removed. The first day I walked pass the remains they were as they fell, brown broken dismembered logs. The next day the tree was covered with a fine green patina. It was as if the last of its life was pushing outward. The last day the green covering was even more intensely iridescent but  the city trash and neighborhood strays had found refuge in the various nooks and crannies.

I only took photos on the 2nd day.
