When Birkenstocks first appeared as a trend in Brooklyn I swore up and down I would never wear them. Back then they came in natural, black and brown nubuck options. Since then the options are overwhelming, especially from companies "inspired" by the style. This year Birkenstock has a blue patent leather option that makes me want to break my promise.
