Holy Mola


I adore the Mola Designs created by the Kuna women of Panama
see image above.

I have this dream of creating a whole garment made in with this reverse applique technique.
Most Mola are 14" x 19" panels worn as front and back panels attached to blouses. The outfit is completed with a wrap around skirt. I saw an exhibition of mola years ago and loved it and then forgot all about it until now. Love the colors. And the designs: naive and yet sohisticated.

That must have been amazing! Some of them truly get complex - I am dreaming of an art deco themed Mola...
