A Needle, Thread and Other Odds & Ends

I always carry a bag of "just in case" and that includes a small travel sewing kit, see attached. I have gone through a number of them and found that this hard plastic shelled case version keeps everything I need for emergency repairs in a neat and organized fashion.

When a friend of mine admired it I did a bit of research and found that it is manufactured and distributed by Austin House, a supplier of travel sized goods and items. You can find retail stores that carry them via their website

http://www.austinhouse.com/products.cfm?category=Personal%20Care%20and%20Comfort%20Essentials

Or you can make your way to Jack's World on 33rd Street and have your choice of various colors for just 99cents!

But does it have a seam ripper? Don't leave home without one! Just kidding, but they are very compact and soooo useful.

My sister-in-law thought I was a freak of nature because I happened to have a seam ripper on me one time when it proved useful-----her chin dropped and she just looked at me like, "what planet are you from?", as I pulled it out of my tiny purse.

But I really should be packing needles and thread as well.....

I was taught never to use a seam ripper..to remove a seam I snip the center of each stitch and once complete gently open seam..with a ripper there is the chance of hurting the fabric..lol.. but I am impressed and a little afraid that you carry a "weapon!"

I have never tried to fly with it. I wonder if they would confiscate it at airport security-----I'd like to see them try!

"Stand back everyone! She has a seam ripper." lol

You're right, seam rippers can rip the fabric, but not if you angle the tip upwards, away from the fabric----it's all in the wrist.

my French Couture teach would have broken that seam ripper in front of the whole class! LOL!!...

But when the stitches are really tiny, where do you find scissors with skinny enough tips to slip through? I guess those pink ones look pretty narrow.....I may have to get some after all.
