When people think of the Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.) they think of a school that offers education in the business and art of fashion but they rarely think of the school's museum.
The museum, which started in 1967, maintains and chronicles the history of fashion by archiving, exhibiting, publishing and offerring various programs that document and explore
clothing, accessories, textiles and visual materials pretaining to fashion.
The current exhibiton SEDUCTION, running from Dec 9, 2008 through June 16, 2009, explores the role of sexuality in fashion. Using selections form the museums's permanent collection the exhibition will feature over seventy looks from the mid-eighteenth century to the present.
If you visit before February 21, 2009 you will also be able to catch the GOTHIC: Dark Glamour exhibition before it closes. With more than 75 ensembles set in theatrical mise-en-scene suggesting iconic gothic settings this exhibition explores the history and present day representation of what has come to be known as the "Goth" look.
